An Aramaic Lord’s Prayer

What follows is a translation of the Lord’s Prayer from one of the oldest surviving gospels, dating from about 200 AD. It was written in Aramaic, the sound and picture language spoken by Jesus.

O Birther! Father and Mother of the Cosmos, You create all the moves in light.

Focus your light within us, make it useful as the rays of a beacon show the way

Unite our “I can” to yours, so that we walk as kings and queens with every creature.

Your one desire then acts with ours, as in all light, so in all forms.

Give us what we need each day in bread and understanding.

Release the cords of mistakes binding us, as we release the strands we hold of others’ guilt.

Don’t let surface things delude us, but free us from what holds us back from our true path.

From you is born all ruling will, the power and life to do, the song that beautifies all…

From age to age, it renews.

Amen
